More About Meg
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with three years of experience working in Longmont with children, teens, and families on Medicaid, Meg is ready to use trauma informed care in shaping local policy.
Meg has lived in Boulder County for 90% of her life (28 years) and attended Sunset Middle School and the IB Program at Niwot High School.
She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2016 from Kenyon College in Ohio, came home to Niwot/Gunbarrel/Longmont where she worked in the office of St. Vrain Community Montessori School for three years, and later went back to school to get a Master's in Social Work in 2022 from the University of Pittsburgh. Each move to the Midwest brought a new cat through the cat distribution system and her two cats, Lupe Fiasco and Cowgirl Bebop, now love being in Colorado.
Meg has a deep sense of the need for community and is determined to build community throughout Longmont.
They have seen time and time again in their therapeutic work how important community is for our overall wellbeing as humans. As a bisexual queer woman, Meg understands how important it is to find your community and enjoys being an active participant in the Longmont drag scene. In their free time, they enjoy golfing, skiing, spending time with friends, going to drag events, and mushroom foraging/hiking. You can also see more of them on Twitch and Instagram!
My Beliefs and Values
My MSW policy professor often said, “policies are values in action.” Here are my values that I’ll use in policy making:
-
Collaboration
I trust in the power of collaboration and community. I truly believe that we can all find common ground in some way, shape, or form with each other. As a therapist, I’m trained in ways to create plans based on shared values.
-
Belonging
I believe in creating a space for everyone at the table, and to include those who need the most and who have been left out in the past. I have experienced firsthand the power of active listening and making sure everyone’s voice and story is heard.
-
Sustainability
I believe in tapping into indigenous wisdom to refocus efforts to maximize sustainability, and in making community efforts to protect our local environments.
-
Investing In Our Future
I believe that in order to invest in our future as a community we need to invest in our youth. As someone currently working with our youth, they desperately need more care, support, and prioritization in schools, at home, and with their mental health.
-
Community Sovereignty
Communities should be able to make decisions to protect and sustain their community. This includes dealing with noise pollution from the airport.
-
Community Building
We evolved to feel accepted and supported to thrive as a species. I prioritize welcoming everyone with open arms and making sure everyone has a seat at the table, so long as we recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every human being.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35
My Beliefs
As a lifelong member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Gunbarrel, I strongly believe in social justice and the divine feminine. I am a follower of Christ who takes his teaching about loving thy neighbors seriously: ALL thy neighbors, and therefore treating all people like people. I believe in Jesus’s vision of a community where “there was not a needy person among them… because resources are “distributed to each as any had need.” (Acts 4:33-35). My faith helps me combat compassion fatigue and want to discover common values with anyone and everyone to build community and work together for the common good.
NASW Code of Ethics
service
integrity
competence
social justice
the importance of human relationships
recognizing the dignity and worth of every person
As a social worker, I follow the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics: service, integrity, competence, social justice, the importance of human relationships, and recognizing the dignity and worth of every person. I want to serve my communities and fight for human rights for all (it’s not pie, there’s enough to go around). Every single person deserves to be met exactly where they’re at and treated with dignity, regardless of difference in opinion. I know firsthand that the therapeutic relationship is the single biggest indicator of success in change and want to build relationships with constituents to help support everyone. I act with integrity even when it’s hard, and I believe in the value of expertise and learning in order to build and maintain competency (both are requirements for my LCSW licensure).
